C5-Specific Expertise

What We Fix On C5 Corvettes

The C5 spans 8 model years and 2 LS engines. We’ve got the diagnostic equipment and the experience to handle every variant.

“Leaky Butt” Rear Seals
Differential and transaxle seal failures. Florida heat makes these go faster than the manuals predict.
Column Lock Module
The #1 “won’t start” complaint on C5s. Diagnosis, bypass, and replacement done right.
Harmonic Balancer
Outer ring separation from rubber bond failure. OE or upgraded ATI/Fluidampr units.
Fuel Pump Driver Module
FPDM corrosion causes hesitation, stalling, and no-starts. We test, relocate, and replace.
Transmission Fluid Service
Not in GM’s scheduled service. Should be. We use the correct fluids on auto and Tremec T-56.
A/C Evaporator Leaks
A/C is non-negotiable here. We have the leak detection equipment to find it the first time.
LS1 / LS6 Engine Service
Tune-ups, oil leaks, valve cover gaskets, knock sensors, and full engine work when needed.
Z06 Specialty Service
LS6 valve spring service, titanium exhaust inspection, and Z06-specific suspension work.
Pre-Purchase Inspections
Before you buy a C5 — let us look at it. We know exactly what to check and what to walk away from.
Owner Questions

What C5 Owners Ask Us

What is the C5 “leaky butt” and how do you fix it?
The C5 “leaky butt” refers to oil and fluid leaks at the rear of the car, caused by aging seals on the rear-mounted transaxle and differential. We replace the input shaft seal, output shaft seals, and differential cover gasket — and inspect the half-shafts and torque tube while we’re in there. Florida heat accelerates seal hardening, so we see this problem on nearly every C5 that comes through our shop.
Why won’t my C5 start? Could it be the column lock?
Yes — column lock failure is the most common “won’t start” issue on C5 Corvettes (1997–2004) and early C6s. The column lock module can fail to release, preventing the ignition from engaging. We diagnose the module, perform the bypass procedure where appropriate, or replace components. This is a service we perform weekly.
What is the harmonic balancer issue on a C5?
The C5’s harmonic balancer (crank pulley damper) can separate as the rubber bonding between the inner hub and outer ring degrades. Symptoms include vibration, belt squeal, or the outer ring visibly wobbling. We replace it with an OE or upgraded ATI/Fluidampr unit and re-time the engine accessories.
How often should a C5 transmission fluid be changed?
Most C5 owners have never had their transmission fluid changed — GM didn’t make it a scheduled service. We strongly recommend service every 50,000–60,000 miles on automatics, and roughly the same interval on the Tremec T-56 6-speed manual. Old fluid is the #1 cause of premature transaxle failure on these cars.
What is the FPDM and why does it fail on C5 Corvettes?
The Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM) is a control module that varies fuel pump speed based on engine demand. On C5 Corvettes it’s mounted in a location that traps moisture, causing internal corrosion and intermittent fuel delivery — the car may stall, hesitate, or fail to start. We test, relocate, and replace FPDMs as part of a permanent fix.
Do you do C5 Z06 specialty service?
Yes. The 2001–2004 C5 Z06 has the LS6 engine and a few unique service points — titanium exhaust inspection, valve spring service (LS6 springs are a known weak point), and the more aggressive Z06-spec suspension.

Your C5 Deserves The Best.

Specialized repairs, expert diagnostics, craftsmanship you can count on — done right the first time.
