Corvette Electrical Diagnostics— Gremlins, Drains, & Module Faults — Solved. —

Corvette electrical issues are rarely simple. A C5 with a dead battery every Monday. A C6 with intermittent ABS faults. A C7 with random module errors. A C8 with parasitic drain. We diagnose with proper tools — not parts-cannon guessing.

Corvette Electrical:
The Real Diagnosis.

Electrical diagnosis is where bad shops lose money on Corvettes — they replace parts hoping one of them works. We diagnose with oscilloscopes, current clamps, parasitic draw testing, and proper wiring schematics. The right answer the first time.

C5/C6 column lock failures. C5/C6 sit-and-die battery drains from snowbirds. C7 module faults. C8 12V system quirks. Every generation has its own electrical signature — and we know them all.

If your Corvette has an electrical issue that nobody’s been able to nail down — we want to look at it.

Localized wiring damage repaired correctly with solder and proper insulation — not crimped wire nuts.

Ground Strap & Connection

Many Corvette electrical gremlins are corroded grounds. We trace and clean.

ABS / Stability Module Issues

Module faults, sensor diagnosis, programming.

Keyless Entry / Remote Start

Fob programming, receiver diagnosis, antenna issues.

Proper battery maintainer setup for cars stored 6 months out of the year.

Owner Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

My C5 keeps killing batteries. What’s wrong?
Almost always a parasitic draw — something in the car is drawing current when it should be off. Common causes on C5 include the column lock module, the radio amplifier, or a failed body control module. We test, identify the circuit, find the culprit, and fix it.
Why won’t my C5 or C6 start? Is it the column lock?
Possibly. Column lock failure is the most common ‘won’t start’ issue on late C5 and early C6. The lock module fails to release, preventing the ignition from engaging. We diagnose, perform the bypass procedure when appropriate, or replace the module.
Can you program modules on a C8?
Yes. We have GM’s GDS2 software with MDI2 hardware required for C8 module programming. Most general shops can’t do this — they have to send cars to the dealer. We can do it in-house.
My snowbird C7 sits 6 months a year. How do I prevent battery death?
A proper battery maintainer (NOT a trickle charger) plugged into the OBD-II port or directly to the battery. We can spec and install the right CTEK or NOCO unit. Battery replacement on a C7/C8 also requires programming the new battery to the BCM, which we do as part of the service.
What’s the difference between a code reader and electrical diagnosis?
A code reader tells you what circuit has a fault. Electrical diagnosis tells you why — corroded ground, bad sensor, broken wire, failing module, or something completely different. The code is the starting point; the diagnosis is the work.
Do you do C8 12V battery service?
Yes. C8 12V batteries are AGM and require correct replacement and BCM registration after install. We use GM-spec batteries and program the BCM properly. Skipping the programming step shortens battery life significantly.
